The Punjab government has announced the implementation of the VB-G RAM G (Vikast Bharat Rozgar Ajeevika Mission for Guarantee) scheme from July 1, under which rural families will be guaranteed 125 days of employment in every financial year. The government says that this scheme has been prepared keeping in mind the vision of ‘Vikast Bharat @2047’ and through it, along with employment in rural areas, it will also give impetus to the development of infrastructure. However, earlier, many opposition states including Punjab had expressed concerns about this scheme and demanded the continuation of MGNREGA. On the other hand, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has claimed that this scheme will bring a new change in the lives of rural laborers and no laborer will be left deprived of employment. The central government has kept a budget of more than ₹95,600 crore for this scheme in the financial year 2026-27, while a large amount has also been allocated separately for MGNREGA.
