The US has temporarily suspended the issuance of immigrant visas for 75 countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh and six neighboring countries of India, effective January 21. According to the United States State Department, the decision is to prevent the entry of people who are suspected of coming to the US and relying on government assistance or welfare programs. In this regard, US embassies and consular officials have been instructed to reject such visa applicants until the review of the screening process is completed. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said that the Trump administration wants to prevent abuse of the immigration system, although the ban will not apply to tourist, business or other temporary visas.
