A major step has been taken towards making the judicial process more speedy and effective in the Punjab-Haryana High Court. The Supreme Court of India Collegium has sent a recommendation to the Central Government for the appointment of 10 new judges.

These include the names of Haryana Advocate General Pravendra Singh Chauhan, Rajesh Gaur and Mindarjit Yadav. Their appointment orders are likely to be issued soon after the President’s approval.

Apart from this, the Collegium has also recommended the names of Monica Chhibber Sharma, Harmeet Singh Deol, Pooja Chopra, Sunish Bindlish, Navdeep Singh, Divya Sharma and Ravinder Malik as judges.

The special thing is that Navdeep Singh is renowned in the field of military law and is a former officer in the Territorial Army.

At present, only 58 judges are working in the Punjab and Haryana High Court out of the sanctioned 85 posts, leaving 27 posts vacant. The appointment of new judges is expected to reduce this shortage and speed up the disposal of cases.
