Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot Quits ‘AAP’, Chief Minister Atishi Accepts Resignation

Delhi,17 Nov 2024

Aam Aadmi Party senior leader and minister in Delhi government Kailash Gehlot has resigned from the party and post. He has sent his resignation to the party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has accepted his resignation.

Kailash Gehlot has written a letter to Arvind Kejriwal alleging that the honest politics that led him to join the Aam Aadmi Party is no longer happening. He has also made several accusations by terming the official residence of party convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as ‘Sheeshmahal’. Kailash Gehlot, who was the transport minister in the Delhi government, wrote, “Arvind Kejriwal ji, first of all I want to express my heartfelt thanks for giving me the honor to serve and represent the people of Delhi as an MLA and as a minister.

However, I also want to point out that today the Aam Aadmi Party is facing serious internal challenges that have brought us together, political ambitions have overtaken our commitment to the people. Due to which many promises have remained unfulfilled.

Gehlot wrote that we had promised to turn the Yamuna into a clean river, but could not do so. Yamuna is now probably more polluted than ever. Another sad thing is that instead of fighting for people’s rights, we are only fighting for our political agenda, the letter says. It has also seriously undermined our ability to provide basic services to the people of Delhi. It is now clear that if the Delhi government spends most of its time fighting the Centre, Delhi cannot make real progress.

Announcing his resignation, he said that his political journey began with a commitment to serve the people of Delhi and he wants to continue this mission. Because of this I have no choice but to separate from you. Therefore, I am resigning from the primary membership of Aam Aadmi Party. Gehlot also wished the AAP leadership for their health and future. He also thanked the party colleagues and well-wishers for their support during his tenure.
