Delhi ex-minister Satyendar Jain gets bail in 4.8-crore money laundering case

Delhi,18 oct 2024

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Health Minister Satyendra Jain has got bail. The AAP leader has got relief after about two and a half years. On Friday, the Rouse Avenue Court gave its verdict on his bail plea. The AAP leader, who was arrested on 30 May 2022, has got regular bail after 873 days. Earlier, he had come out on interim bail for a few months. The court had then given him relief on health grounds. The Aam Aadmi Party has described the regular bail granted to Jain as a victory of truth.

Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case through four companies allegedly linked to him. Special Judge Rakesh Syal had reserved the order after hearing arguments on the application from the accused and the ED. Jain’s lawyer had told the court that no purpose would be served by keeping him in custody further. The ED had opposed the application, saying that if Jain was released, he could influence witnesses. The ED’s case arose from an FIR registered against Jain by the CBI in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Satyendra Jain’s lawyer Vivek Jain said, ‘The Rouse Avenue trial court has granted bail to Satyendra Jain. The trial court said that he has suffered by staying in jail for a long time. The trial has not started yet. The trial court has followed the Manish Sisodia judgment. The court has considered him entitled to bail by giving preference to Article 21.’
