Dr. Balbir Singh demands Rs 10 crore ex-gratia and justice for Kolkata victim’s parents

While raising his voice in favor of the doctors community who are agitating against the shameful case of rape and murder in Kolkata, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today demanded ex-gratia of Rs 10 crore to the parents of the victim doctor from the Center and the West Bengal government for speedy justice for the victim and exemplary punishment to the culprits.He also urged the central government to bring a strict central law to prevent violence against medical professionals across the country.
He assured the agitating doctors that they would write to the Union Health Minister to bring a central law to stop attacks on medical professionals. He said that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Maan is committed to ensure the safety of all doctors, especially women healthcare staff.
He also asked the heads of government health institutions to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to security and infrastructure in their institutions within 48 hours. He clearly stated that there should be no dark spot anywhere in the health institutions and that whenever a female medical professional has to visit patients in distant wards during the night shift, she must be accompanied by two male staff members.
