*DIRECTS DRAINAGE AND MANDI BOARD OFFICIALS TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROPER DISPOSAL OF WATER TO AVERT FLOOD LIKE SITUATION

Patiala, July 20: Deputy commissioner Kumar Amit, today evening, visited the Daun Kalan, Farm Bahadurgarh, Dhareri  Jattan, Baddi Nadi and Chhoti Nadi spots to take the stock of the situation arising out of the influx of rain water from Rajpura side.
He interacted with the locals and assured that the district administration and drainage department would not allow any shortcoming in the timely drainage arrangements of rain water.
The Deputy Commissioner also specially thanked the villagers and farmers for their support.  Accompanied by SDM Patiala,  Charanjit Singh, Executive Engineer, Drainage Department, Ramandeep Singh Bains, SDO, Mandi Board, Dharwinder Singla, the Deputy Commissioner said that there was no danger of floods in Patiala district due to rain water but still the drainage and flow of rain water in the last 24 hours passing through Ghaggar and other drains in Patiala district was being closely monitored.
Deputy Commissioner further said that he has already issued necessary instructions to the concerned departments to be vigilant to avert any flood like situation.  He directed the Drainage Department and Mandi Board that there should be no slackening in the arrangements for disposal of excess water, any obstruction in the flow of water should be removed immediately and should be dealt with strictly, if any one obstructs its natural flow.
Mr Kumar Amit said that the flow of water in the rivers and streams in the district, was flowing below the danger mark as per their capacity.  Today the water level in Patiala’s  Baddi Nadi was at 6.2 feet and the danger mark here is at 12 feet.  While the water of Sirhind Choa is at 1.5 feet on Bhode siphon and the danger mark here is at 10 feet.  The water level in the river Tangri is at 6 feet and the danger mark here is at 12 feet.  While the water in the Markanda River is flowing at 6.5 feet mark, the water here can be accommodated upto 20 feet.  Similarly, the water gauge at Sarala Head,  was at 4.5 feet while it has danger mark at 16 feet, here.
Mr Kumar Amit said that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Lok Sabha Member Mrs Preneet Kaur were also monitoring the situation telephonically and the District Patiala Administration was fully committed to protect the lives and property of the citizens and  fully ready to deal with any dangerous situation. He told the people that there was no need to fear a flood-like situation but still beware of rumors.  He said that information about the increased flow of water could be given on the number 0175-2350550 of District Flood Control Room.
